This was the last place Africans saw before they were taken to the Americas. Once through the door, there was no returning. The size of the door at Elmina Castle creates a visual effect that physically manifests itself within the core of your body. I stood in that room with my peers watching as one by one they moved in front of the light to see the view out of the doorway. One by one they blocked the light and the entire room would go back. Each strobe represented loss and the inexplicable human capability of cruelty.

The photographer is to be commended for being able to capture the harrowing essence of such a historical place. The description and the photograph blended perfectly to evoke the grim story that haunts this place. I’ll let the photographer explain the rest..
